I hate being called a “good boy”. It has a label of a loser – weakness and insignificance: “nice guys finish last”. The “kind” yield, for they have no power. They are the objects of the exercise of power. If one is “good” or “kind”, the expectation is that he or she cannot be successful.
Being polite, tolerant, thoughtful and so forth can be seen as qualities of kindness, yet using these terms to describe a person lacks the offensive clang. As soon as the description changes to “kind” the tone becomes significantly less flattering.
