For a long time now I have been irritated to my very core by the stereotype that men are almost always more or less lousy fathers. Men are treated like they don't actually want children at all and didn't know what to do with them and why. Even at his best a stereotypical lousy father is dismissive and distant and at his worst he bathes his children in coke and dries them on the clothesline. Most of real fathers are just as good and bad parents as mothers, both are roles that people grow into and one sex shouldn't automatically be characterised as incapable of taking care of even a cactus.
